Extremely satisfactory stay!

We chose an ocean front room. It’s large, with a cozy dark wood vibe, and has a perfect reading nook in earshot of the surf. Parking is a good size and the host offers nice details like water and other beverages.

I had a spacious room with lanai. The staff were very friendly and breakfast was great.

This is really a nice place to stay. The view outside the room is amazing! There’s no doubt that I would like to stay here again. Very nice and friendly host. Awesome experience to live here, it is like live in home, and the room is well-decorated and clean. The host is so nice and if you need a ride to the airport, you can schedule with them. Also, they will prepared you breakfast between 6am to 9am.

Need new bath towels and sheets

Owners really nice. Breakfast great! Cleanliness no, towels I wouldn’t dry my car with, sheets horrible. Little things like awesome towels and a higher cotton count on sheets make an overnight experience so much nicer

Lovely restored home. Very nice owner and sweet (I believe Japanese) lady prepared and cooked our breakfast. Lots of snacks and refreshments. We were allowed to use an area in the fridge. No amenities in room but, everything we would want or need was just outside our door. Would love to stay again!

Ocean front beautiful welcoming location

Our hosts were welcoming and genuine. They were very friendly with several great suggestions on places to visit. I would yay there again on my next visit!

Excellent, beautiful property in Hilo to stay at with courteous owners and staff.

The three of us were very comfortable in suite 1 with the little twin window bed. The sound of the ocean drowned out the songs of the coqui frogs. It was a great location to see the sights on the Hilo side. The breakfast was amazing: fresh fruit, French toast or coconut pancakes, eggs to order, and juice. They have a little cabinet with first aid items and extra sunscreen.The hosts were caring and thoughtful. Would definitely recommend this place!!!

I would just like to thank the hosts for making our stay the most hospitable one by far. It was a peaceful and restful stay where we fell asleep and woke up to the sound of waves. My wife and I appreciate the care shown to us during our stay, for allowing us to check in early after a terrible experience we had in another hotel the night before. I highly recommend this place, conveniently located within close proximity to all amenities, food options, beach and the airport.

The ocean lulls you to sleep

What a wonderful surprise this little B&B was. We truly hated to leave. The room was just spectacular being right on a little cliff above the ocean. The hosts were so accommodating and the breakfasts were very good. The room was clean and the area quiet. We can't wait to go back.

Beautiful property and great host.

This historic property hovers right on the edge of Hilo Bay in a quiet, residential area. Brian and Tomomi take excellent care of the house and the guests. Tomomi provided hot breakfast a little later than usual because of our long nights at Merrie Monarch, and we received fresh towels every day. The fans kept the room comfortable. All kinds of snacks and other supplies are available for the taking. The ocean waves rolled just a few feet away from our windows. We will be back!

Super awesome host! Awesome ocean view!

The property is very well kept, and Brian and his wife were the best hosts! The location and view are amazing, the made-to-order breakfast was unmatched! What really made it a memorable family vacation for us was Brian's warm and welcoming nature. He gave us great recommendations, provided us with water gear, shared history about the area, and even helped us with our last minute laundry! Would definitely recommend everyone to stay here while in Hilo!

Our host was super friendly and helpful. He suggested some local spots to check out. They also allowed us to check in early which was nice. I can't overstate how beautiful this house is. I was immediately struck by the cleanliness and the old-feel of the house itself. Our room was beautiful and felt extremely comfortable and clean. My only regret is we only spent one night here! Beautiful location. Listening to the waves at night was so peaceful. The staff is super friendly and helpful with suggestions. The daily breakfast was delicious. You have to get the pancakes. Everything you could ask for in a B&B and more. We will definitely stay here again if traveling to Hilo.

An amazing character building! It was wonderful for the hosts to meet us in the parking lot when we arrived, took our bags and gave us a tour of where everything we might need was. Breakfast was excellent. The bedroom was huge and beautiful. Our only quibble was the front room was close to the main road so quite noisy. Thanks for being great hosts and for a great stay !

Great B&B Clean, great breakfast! Managed by a lovely couple!

The house and our ocean side room was extremely clean and the ocean view from our window was amazing. The only outdoor gathering place was on the front porch or an outdoor table whereby there was constant traffic noise. The breakfast was just a normal breakfast with nothing special about it. The little fruit they provided was laid out on a flat dish and was nothing like their website pictures. I guess we were a bit spoiled from the B&B we stayed at the previous week (at the same price) whereby the breakfast and grounds were truly amazing.

Waterfront ocean view was outstanding. Waves breaking just outside our room provided a very relaxing ambiance.

Perfect B&B on Hilo Bay

Very nice early 1900's building. Not much to look like from the outside. But, don't be fooled. EXCELLENT service. Our room was small but very nicely decorated. Our room (Suite #6) had a private bathroom (it's likely all of their rooms have private bathrooms). Perfectly clean. The made-to-order breakfast was outstanding. We had a beautiful fruit plate, omelet, special macadamia nut pancakes, bacon, coffee and juice. WONDERFUL!!! Unfortunately, we had to catch an early morning flight and weren't able to enjoy a breakfast on our second (final) morning. The location of the property is literally right on the water. We listened to the waves breaking all night. They also have snacks, delicious local bananas and bottled water available 24/7. They also have beach towels, boogie boards, binoculars, etc. available for guests to use. They have literally got you covered for ANYTHING you need. Highly recommend!

Very nice experience. Property is right on the water with waves crashing on the lava wall on which the property is located. Great ocean breeze all day long keeping the room cool all the time. Good breakfast with plenty of choices. Very helpful and friendly host.

Great place and wonderful hosts

Amazing hospitality. They know and have what you need before you even know that you need it (even if it's a rag to clean your hand after fixing your bike).

The room was charming with a great view of the water and the hosts really made us feel welcome! They had fabulous recommendations for local restaurants and activities which really added to our trip- we highly recommend!

This is an excellent place, the room was very clean, the breakfast was wonderful and tasty and there was bottled water, snacks and alcohol available for all guests. The only issue for us was Hilo town had lots of homeless. Walking into town from the bed and breakfast you had to walk in some bad areas. The second night we were there we just drove into town. Otherwise it is an excellent place to stay.

Beautiful house on the cliff. My room was facing ocean side, falling asleep under sounds of waves.

We liked just about everything, the rooms, the views, breakfast and folks

Everything was so nice and clean! Managers Brian and Tomomi (pardon our spelling) made that stay very special. Highly recommended. Breakfast was also awesome! They always tried to be helpful and pts of suggestions too. We enjoyed our stay! Much better than a hotel!

The rooms facing the water are fantastic

Loved this cute little stay!!! It was such a lovely and cozy place to rest after our day of exploring Hilo and the surrounding areas. The property is a home converted into a bed & breakfast with maybe a handful of rooms. Each room is very comfortable and nicely decorated with all the comforts you need for lodging, plus the lobby area has lots of extra amenities for guests. Also, the hosts were so kind and gracious. We really appreciated everything they did for us during our stay. The homemade breakfast was delicious! Thank you so much.

It was a beautiful place to stay and you couldn't get any cliser to the water. The manager Brian and his wife Timomi were marvellous along with the owner Cheryl.

We thoroughly enjoyed our stay at the Hilo Bay Oceanfront B&B for 2 nights in March 2023. Brian and Tomomi were excellent hosts and guides. The breakfasts were great with lots of options (french toast, pancakes, eggs any way, bacon, fruit). We asked for suggestions for dinner and Brian suggested Jackie Rey's (we ended up going twice it was so good). We were also offered snorkeling equipment and I was able to swim with turtles and beautiful fish at the black sand beach (also recommended by Brian). The downtown area is a short walk and there are wonderful parks (Hilo beachfront park, Lili'uokalani Gardens and Coconut Island) a little further away. If we make it to Hilo again, we will stay here without question!

This is a lovely old house right on the water that has been refurbished into a six room b&b. The owners are extremely helpful and attentive. The room is lovely. Food is good. Had to wear earplugs to overcome the nighttime noises of pounding surf and tree frogs, but not much you can do about that. And they couldn’t do much about the rain, either, which poured buckets nonstop the entire three days we stayed! They have plans to expand landscaping to include a pool and hot tub, which would be very welcome. Thank you, Cheryl, Brian, et al, for a lovely stay!

The property was close to the town of Hilo but was very private and close to the shore

Lovely example of an old Hawaiian house. Beautiful location on the bay close to downtown. Our room was charmingly decorated, comfortable and clean. Staff was friendly and very accommodating.

The hosts were exceptional in their friendliness and care. I’d highly recommend a stay with the current managers! Excellent hospitality and breakfasts! The pancakes were fabulous and the care taken with our daily fruit plate was lovely!

We enjoyed our stay at the Hilo Bay Bed and Breakfast. The room was spacious, clean, and comfortable. Our hosts for were wonderful and the breakfast meal superb. We would highly recommend this bed and breakfast to any of our friends and family who need a place to stay while visiting the Hilo area.

Very comfortable and organized place. Has everything you need, very considerate owner. Sit next ocean with well prepared breakfast . The breakfast was very good and warm, pan cake, bread, bunch of fruit , coffee and juice. Thank you Bryan and wife.

Booked this room thru Expedia 10 minutes before showing up at the place. We were warmly greeted by the owners and they assisted us in taking our luggage in. They let us chose between the 2 rooms they had available. They were amazing hosts. They offered us hot and cold beverages and snacks. They even drove us into town and dropped us off. The rooms and the views were gorgeous. Great breakfast in the morning and they even sent us away with fresh baked banana bread they made that morning when we left. Can't wait to come back again.

We booked a stay here last minute after SCP Hilo cancelled our reservation last minute. Ended up being a blessing in disguise - highly recommend staying here. Great service from the staff and close to downtown Hilo.

The owner, Cheryl, and manager, Bill, are delightful. Property is unique and elegant, and just as the name implies, on the edge of the ocean. Highly recommend!

I don't know why other people gave such a great review. The room is very basic and overpriced. No tv and no air conditioning. The room was very warm and had to sleep with the fans running on high. The breakfast was ok and that was the best part of the stay. I would not stay here again. Very overpriced.

Nice and serene ambiance that lead to relaxation and peaceful calm. The throwback decor and natural setting—made for an experience reminiscent of the good old days when there were no street signals and few cars. Felt like the days of Michener’s “Hawaii.” The staff, Bill, was a one man show. Excellent breakfast and attention to our needs. He made our stay memorable. Looking forward to returning soon.

Beautiful room and extremely friendly staff. Will definitely stay here again! The room was very clean and The bathroom spotless. It was very homey and I would much rather stay here and support local business than large chain hotels. It was a little more expensive but worth every penny. We will definitely return when we come back in the area.

We loved that it was small, quiet, lovely, and that Cheryl and her breakfast cook and all around helper Bill went above and beyond to make their guests feel welcome. This B&B was just perfect. We only stayed for one night before leaving the island. We wished we hsdmore time to spend, ut will definitely stay here when we return to Hilo. Rooms,location, staff and breakfast were great. Five stars

Fantastic Oceanfront Stay!

We loved the stay had Hilo Bay Oceanfront B&B. The room was wonderful and we loved the sound of waves crashing right outside the window. The sunrise was gorgeous! The room was clean and all the amenities were provided.

Cool Place! The owners were replacing the roof which was a bit noisy but not a big deal. We enjoyed hearing the waves crashing into the hillside and the coakies chipping away in the evening. If you have sleeping issues it might be the place for you - we loved it! Very good breakfast. Nice host and staff.

Lovely place to relax

This is a great B&B! The hosts are very accommodating and the room we had was awesome! Facing the water, slept with windows open and the constant sound of the ocean/bay to those of us who live landlocked, was amazing! Breakfast was homemade and filling every morning, parking and location are ideal. Got rides to and from the airport - a last minute request from us - which they handled with grace and warmth.

This is a perfect place to stay! We all enjoyed it!

The manager Bill is real friendly & has a cool attitude- very flexible for whatever & whenever you need something. They make a lovely breakfast - all fresh n hot according to your specs. The rooms are good, comfortable & the view is good - though Hilo bay does not have the tropical blue & torquoise hues of the water. But the location is right next to lapping waves & one can watch the sunrise. BnB is close enough to restaurants & few other attractions

Wonderful hosts, even for an overnight stay like myself. Great breakfast choices and view over the sea! The room (with backyard view) is very spacious and has everything you need. Be aware the B&B is located close to a main street on the back side of the building. Adding the street noise to the frogs (?) at night made me use my earplugs for a good night sleep. No deal breaker whatsoever, would definitely stay there again.

The hosts were wonderful, and made sure we were happy. We had a room with an oceanfront view and the breakfasts were great, made to order. One of the hosts did our laundry. I highly recommend this B & B!

Cheryl and Everall were excellent hosts!!! They were both very accommodating, take their time to know you, and make you feel right at home. The breakfast fruit platter and macadamia, home grown toasted coconut pancakes are special touches. Listening to the waves was calming and beautiful. The location is within walking distance to the farmer’s market and city center. Thank you so much for a memorable, lovely stay!!!

Perfect stay!!

Absolute perfection! Beautiful location. Pleasant host. Very comfortable room overlooking the ocean. Breakfast was plentiful and delicious (try the Mac nut pancakes!!).

The husband and I never stayed at a bed and breakfast before and there we felt less overwhelmed of the process. The home and the owners are Beautiful. The scenery is amazing if you like the ocean like I do.. just the fact that we felt we were stranded, we were able to call on them and at no hesitation they came to our rescue.. Definitely will recommend family and friends to look into them.

I loved the oceanfront sounds of the ocean outside the window. Breakfast was good and Cheryl was a great host. She provides umbrellas for the almost continual rainfall in Hilo. I definitely would stay here again.We went to the Merry Monarch and had a great time in Hilo.

The innkeeper Cheryl was very cordial and helpful. The accommodations where unique and comfortable. Breakfast was great. We would highly recommend this outstanding B&B and will stay with them again if we are back in Hilo.

Great location on the water. Breakfast each morning was terrific. Conveniently close to downtown Hilo. The room could have used a bit more more storage space, but otherwise it worked out very well.

I can't imagine a better place in Hilo than this perfectly restored and renovated craftsman's house right on the water and close to the city center. The room was spacious and with an incredible view. The bathroom is new (but in style) and the bed comfortable. The owners have thought of everything to make your stay perfect. From the generous breakfast cooked to order, to the various equipment you can borrow, down to snack bars for your adventures. Don't miss it.

Supported a much needed getaway. Easy to locate; no hassle check-in; large clean room; delicious breakfast. The host is attentive. Not a fancy place, but good enough for me. I liked that there was no TV and I could listen to the ocean. I sat on the veranda to have coffee and do some reading. One drawback is that you can hear the cars on the straightaway.

The rooms were beautiful, the breakfast lovely. The view of the ocean from the breakfast nook was wonderful. The place has a casual vibe, you can get water from the fridge, use their snorkel gear, use binoculars to see sea life during breakfast. The town of Hilo itself has seen better days but this is a great place to stay.

This is a beautiful place to stay in Hilo, the Inn is well maintained, updated, but very authentic to it's 100 year old age. Cheryl and Everell are superb hosts!

A Perfect Stay

Loved the whole experience at Hilo Bay Oceanfront B&B. The room was spotless; our host Cheryl, was helpful in terms of providing suggestions for the best spots to eat and attractions (don’t miss the botanical garden); and breakfast was fantastic, with our choice of eggs, pancakes, etc.

Lovely property that is close to downtown Hilo… Small with only six units so very private. No TVs in the room but that isn’t a bad thing

This place is a GEM--stay here!

This is an awesome place to stay! Very clean, very comfortable and great service. The room was spacious enough for my family of 4 and our luggage. Well-stocked with items to borrow if needed--we borrowed umbrellas and binoculars. Great coffee bar and snacks as well as an amazing cooked-to-order breakfast. Great communication by the staff on check-in instructions.

Wonderful Bed and Breakfast located right in front of the ocean. Room was spacious and clean. You will be waking up the sound of crashing waves and delicious breakfast. Would definitely stay here again when we visit Hilo.

The host, Cheryl, was friendly and welcoming. In the morning, one of workers, Fian, cooked us a delicious breakfast, seasoned with local lore and recommendations. A lovely time overall.

A beautiful room, in a beautiful building, right on Hilo Bay!

I loved our ocean-facing room so much. It was spacious, with a sitting area by the window looking out over the water. Keeping the windows open all night to hear the ocean and feel the breeze coming in was heavenly. Breakfast was delicious, quick and an education in all the local Hawaiian fruit, some of which is grown right on the property. It was kind of the hosts to put out lots of snacks we could stick in our backpacks when we headed out for the day. I also very much appreciated that they let us stash some perishable food in their fridge and provided a small insulated cooler for us to take on a day trip, something it didn't occur to me to bring with us. The house is fascinating, perched right above the ocean. We were too busy to just sit on the front veranda but it was a beautiful space and if we had another day I would've gladly parked myself in one of the comfy veranda chairs to read for an hour. Thank you for a lovely visit.

Wonderful stay

Great stay at this lovely 1920s house right on the ocean. Cheryl is nice as can be and makes a mean breakfast! We had the oceanfront room, literally hanging on the edge of a cliff, surf pounding lulls you to sleep. Little frogs in the tree make a little noise but quiet down so sleep is not a problem.

Ocean view room lovely, breakfast choice nice, and flexible time

The staff is amazing and super nice. They are available for everything, and on top of that we were in a room literally “in” the ocean. Super!
