Comfort
Its was good overall but mattresses was not comfy & very thin but its about PODS only and that room was not very hygienic about cleaning
Really nice and affordable place to stay. Really really warm inside! I had been in Europe for over a week at that point and it was the first time I actually felt warmed up!
Awesome stay!
Not a bad spot, private room was ok, Bathroom and room smelt bad and the window blinds were broken.
Pod units are good.
I stayed in a pod unit. I found the mattress too thin but otherwise it was quite comfortable. The separate showers a toilets were clean and bright. There were several common areas to sit. If you go bring a lock, towel , and slippers.
Was man verbessern kann: 1.
The hostel itself (room, check-in etc) was excellent. However, the courtyard that our room, and many others, faced down onto played very loud music from around 7:00 each morning which resulted in two terrible sleeps.
Property was clean and close to some tourist areas.
Perfect location, close to everything. I stayed in a pod which wasn’t so bad. It was just very hot overall, the fan in the pod didn’t work as well. Also had an issue with the drying machine. After 4 hours of having my clothes in the dryer, they still did not dry. The employee at the reception ended up having to dry my clothes separately where they dry their sheets because it was already 2am and my clothes were all still wet.
No AC. Some of the windows’ latches are not functional, rowdy gang of highschoolers on a trip was a little too rowdy.
I really Enjoyed staying at the Generator Mitte Berlin. The capsules experience was very good. The showers need a bit of TLC notthing major a few of them the water 💧 did not drain properly. Italian girl from Venice working at the coffee bar at the entrance real darling fantastic customer service. The all staff was also very nice on general.
Property overall good condition in a prime location
We booked this long ago so got for 200 EU. If book day of 300 EU for a hostel room. No Ac ir fridge. Low end mattress. Loud courtyard as bar noisy until 130 am
Long queue at check in.
Check-in took forever. Small room.
I stayed for 2 nights at the Generator Berlin Mitte and it was lovely. The staff were really friendly and shared great recommendations. Would recommend for anyone visiting Berlin.
Fun and characterful
I've stayed at a lot of hostels, and this one has excellent vibes!
Clean rooms, good value, lively atmosphere. No AC, rooms do get a bit hot in summer
Good
Unsafe
Upon my arrival, I encountered a highly unsafe and unsanitary environment. The lobby was filthy, and the public bathroom contained drug paraphernalia, including used needles. This situation was alarming and unacceptable, prompting me to leave immediately for my safety. I attempted to contact the hotel numerous times over the following days to report these issues and request a refund but received no response. As a result, I reached out to Hotels.com immediately to let you know about the situation and to ask for help. The fact that Hotels.com has been unable to secure a refund despite my immediate notification and the severe conditions at the hotel is deeply concerning. This situation goes beyond typical refund policies—it involves serious health and safety violations that made it impossible for me to stay at the property.
Very nice room with big windows looking over trees. But the furniture in the room was very uncomfortable. Overall I had a good experience, things were clean, staff friendly, breakfast tasty.
Nice modern hostel with great facilities.
This is a great hostel in Berlin, everything is very new & trendy. The rooms are great and have a seperate shower and toilet. The bar downstairs is great to meet new friends, very social area. The only thing is that I think the lockers in the room need improving, the door on mine was broken but other than that all great.
Kasia, Nikolina, Nicolas and especially Sharon were great staff members! They were extremely helpful, friendly and exceeded expectations answering all my questions. I definitely think the staff helped the stay become a lot more enjoyable!
Would definitely book again. Everyone was so nice and welcoming, and the people in my dorm were very respectful.
Staff was very friendly and helpful, but I ended up in a pretty dirty room. It looked like someone had been living there for months. Trash everywhere and a slight smell. I didn’t rate it lower because the overall building was nice and the cost was so cheap. Plus, I might have just gotten unlucky with my room. Definitely a convenient location with lots to do around.
I booked this place not expecting much. It was so cheap but it ended up being very clean and beds were comfy. The rooms have a private toilet and shower, so you don't have to go out of the room everytime. The only thing I would complain about, the shower, the one in our room had no pressure and the drain was really smelly. But it did the job.
Quiet place for travellers. Nice staff. Cool pod.
Lovely service from staff and the rooms and facilities were clean and easy to use
Not bad
Overall a pretty cool place. Pros: -cool place to hang out - nice staff Cons: -very noisey -my room wasn’t ready at time of check in -pretty expensive for a hostel
I love the location, not too crazy about breakfast, not many options; also, if you want to sleep you can't too much noise. but I had a good time overall.
Had a great time staff was awesome shower was a little dirty but no complaints on everything else.
The staff was excellent The accommodations were good in pods The café is nice Good restaurants nearby Subway also nearby
The best hotel in the area
Basic but expensive hostel
This is a prison hostel in downtown Berlin and is super expensive. Not worth at all.
Stayed for 6 hours . Drunk yelling people running through the halls banging on doors . Drunk hotel guest whistling at our 15 year old daughter talking about sex . Talked with staff and immediately left in the morning. We had a week long reservation and had to get another hotel. Management refused to give refund even after staying for 6 hours .
Does the job
The room had not been cleaned as there were several large litter items on the floor and it was dirty. Bathroom was clean, big, good shower and hot water. Corridors noisy at night. All communal areas nice. Bar had good atmosphere. Breakfast good for the price.
I don’t recommend the hotel. The staff were very friendly. Only if you are finding cheaper options this is one solution.
great location, clean facilities, comfortable beds, and wonderful staff. Highly recommend. Very family friendly too!
Don’t go there
I once spend a night in detention - this hostel compares quite well to that experience. - no service, no confort, everything comes with a surcharge and the price and description here on hotels.com does not reflect that.
Not recommended
The price was okay, and there are many public transportation options directly next to the door, but the hotel is awful. They gave us a room on the back side, directly facing a building site. Workers were there the whole time, and there were no curtains. So no privacy at all. The room is also super small for 2 persons. I would never book a room there and I also do not recommend it.
Great stay!
Very good, very friendly staff, the bathroom was cleaned everyday! It just needs to have organised social events!
Note, this is not a hotel, it is a hostel, but apart from other hostels you are not allowed to bring your own food. Rooms are clean and sterile, sparsely furnished with no TV. Their business concept is to charge for everthing you normally get at a hotel, shampo, conditioner, safe etc. they even charge for storage of your luggage. Add 10-20 € and choose a real hotel, you may end up with the same bill, a more friendly and cosy environment without strict house rules and bad jokes on the soap dispensers (yes, they provide soap, but that’s about it).
Staff was really friendly and helpful they are lovely. But 8mixed room bathroom's smell was bad... I don't know why even no one use it but always smell was remain in there..
They can provide slipper will be nice. I think backpacker will need them.
Get better
Positives: - Clean room and bed. - separate shower and toilet in the room - very good wifi connection - spacious common room - central - 2 plugs in each bed Negatives - Asking for money to leave your luggage is very unusual and bad for hostel’s reputation. This is not a tiny hostel needs to milk the customers to survive - whatever they cook in the restaurant the whole entrance smell burnt oil which is very annoying
5* - book if a solo traveler or group of friends
Stayed for 2 nights in 4-bed mixed dorm. It was just what they promoted and what I paid for. Shower and bathroom better than other dorms as there is a sink in both rather than in some hotels where there is a sink only with the shower and defeats the purpose. Best location, near restaurants, tube, metro, and so on. Highly recommend. Staff also very helpful and friendly.
The tram station near the hostel is great!! But, in my room, someone stole my rings
One of the worst choices to stay in Berlin.
Rooms were tiny with just one towel. My room was looking at hotel's yard with extremely heavy music & bass from the club in the yard of the hotel. The staff was very rude, they refused to change me room. Hotels.com couldn't find an authorized person and the hotel after 48h replied that they do not give any kind of compensation. It's one of the worst places to stay in Berlin.
Great
Very clean, great location, lockers are big enough to fit my backpack, just need to bring your own lock
Convenient area
The lounge, the kitchen, and bar area was well kept together. The rooms should have curtains for privacy. There was no proper shower head and the outcome was horrendous.
3 day 4 bedroom stay
Great stay with friendly check-in and considerate room mates. No AC but one gets what one pays for, and this place really gives value for the money
Tourist time. Nice people. Good locarion
Good location, clean bed, a fair price, and good lounge.
Quick check in and check out. Nice, clean and modern facilities. Nice areas to socialise and nwet new people
Generator Mitte in Berlin was wonderful. The subway station or underground is only 50 meters from the door. It’s also in walking distance to the center of Berlin. Can’t wait to come back to Berlin again. I will definitely be staying here at the generator. The staff was excellent. Especially John and Claudia at the reception desk.
Room was way too hot.
room Was way too hot and they had signs that said you couldn’t open the window with one little fan for an 8 bed dorm.
Very good
Very good
I stayed in a room with 3 others and a private bathroom. Room was quite small and cramped for 4 people. Cooling did not work in the rooms, it was 30° each day I was there. Bathroom was basic and no shower curtain, so the floor was wet the whole time. Pay €4 for towels or bring your own. Location is great in Mitte. Staff are very helpful. Construction started quite early on surrounding areas, so it was quite noisy. Breakfast was good, plenty of options. I also didn't like all the automation for luggage storage, wasn't able to pay with my card for many of the machines, went to withdraw cash and the atm provided does not work. Luggage storage is quite expensive too and doesn't provide any change.
Clean but Lacking
The room was clean and the place was overall quite nice. Very social atmosphere and bar. The rooms were extremely hot at night with no AC. You are only given a heavy blanket that you’re better off not using. The portable fan in the room was broken for the 6 days I was there and they didn’t have a replacement. The windows for some rooms overlook a courtyard, so it can be quite loud with the windows open late at night and early in the morning. With no kitchen or free meals provided, the ‘no outside food’ rule seems excessive.
Friendly staff and nice décor. Shower in the room and in the corridors so didn't have to wait. Good sized lockers under the bed. However had to ask for clean bedding on arrival as mine had already been used
Soso
Pros: Very good location Fast wifi Cons: No curtain for the beds Showet water temperature keeps fluctuating Charge a lot extra: Laundry costs 6euro, storing luggage costs 5-7 euro
It was my first experience in hostel. But it was really perfect. The location, staff, amenities are just perfect.
Staff all very helpful. Rooms clean and amenities are good. Good location lots to do nearby
Great design with a nice bar
Great hostel. Big building with a lot of rooms, so I felt it lacked that family vibe you get in smaller hostels. Its finished throughout to a very high standard with a cool bar and courtyard. Great location in the centre of town. Would be great if there was a soap dispenser in the shower. Overall I would def stay again
Room was smaller that advertised. Ideal location and amenities were good
Location is good. You have to pay for towels. Not the cleanest feel. Private rooms are ok. Would not return
Great location, young vibrant space, friendly and helpful reception. Enjoyed my stay :)
Great
Great location Enjoyed flatwhite at the cafe on the ground floor so hard! 😉👍
The design of the hostel was fantastic. The bar was great too. However, staff were rude, arrogant and lazy. Had to change rooms because there was a god-awful smell in ours. Plus towels were not included and we had to pay €4 (non-refundable!!!) Breakfast was also a little bit of a rip-off for what you got. Overall pretty dissatisfied.
A wonderful, fun and engaging hostel! I tend to get single rooms when I stay at hostels but must say that the 4 bed stay was cool. There was a nice married couple I roomed with so I am thankful for nice roommates :-). The entire feel of the Hostel is electric. The communal areas, cafe, bar...it is overall fabulous! I opted for the breakfast inclusion which incl eggs, cereal, yogurt, baguettes, Nutella/jam. Cheese, meat slices, coffee, tea and orange juice. But there are many other bf places around the neighborhood. The rooms have private bathrooms and the each bed offers privacy with a personal light and charging/power sockets. The neighborhood/location is terrific- Oranienburger Straße. You can get wherever you need by Tram or Underground Metro which is located right out front of the Hostel. You can see the TV Tower from the road out front. There are restaurants, shops and galleries all-around. It’s a nice park nearby... And a scenic short walk (or 1-2 stop tram ride but I recommend walking so you don’t miss the off road galleries and cafes) to Hackescher Markt- at the market there are shops, bars and the train station, which is one ride away from Alexander Platz. I’d definitely recommend staying here. x
Good sized room and bathroom. Friendly staff and good breakfast. Good location for walking.
All generators hostels are Great. The only thing that I would definitely improve in the Berlin one is staff needs to be more friendly because sometimes they did not have the patient to help guests .
The hostel was very clean and nicely put. Also close to tram to get around Berlin easily
Excellent environment with thoughtful staff
The hotel is located in a convenient location 2 metro stops to Alexanderplatz and around restaurants and shops, the amenities are minimalist but straight to the point with good beds and the staff were helpful each time we asked for anything including touristy info and a paid late checkout. Amazing environment as the hotel has a vibrant bar, restaurant, co-working space, ATM and a yard in the center for chilling. Great value for money and youthful spirit and designs all around.
Good as basic accommodation
If the expectation is that you are just looking for an en-suite with very basic accommodation facility then Generatir is the one you are looking for. No daily housekeeping, with the exception of clearing the trash bin the third day. You can hear people’s conversation in the platio even at 11.30pm.
We stayed in a double room which was comfortable. The reception and café area were nice, music not loud, there was a hostel vibe. But the rooms were very quiet at night and I appreciated that. Location is great, walking distance from museumsinsel.
Can recommend the Friday afterwork when the Fodora office comes down
Very helpful and friendly receptionist that printed our hbf pdf tix when we needed assistance. The hostel is also very cosy.
I’ve been to a few Generator Hostels and have felt at “home and relaxed”. Here it didn’t do that for me.
I’ve been to the Generator hostel in London as well and I really like them. This place is lovely and well, the staff is really nice and helpful. The location is great.
not a good one
WOW , This hostel will not do anything for you , like anything clean your room like once a week , the reception is useless and you cant even bring food to this place , you will be force to buy thier " amazing " food .....
This really is what it says on the tin - a hostel. Don't be fooled by the 'design' bit. It was easy to book, seemed like nice service, nice external areas but the room itself was uncomfortable and unclean. Room was dirty on arrival, empty water bottles and ear plugs still in t
Nice hotel, transportation accessible but...
Our stay at Generator was okay. We stayed in the room with 2 single beds with private bathroom, the room doesn't have AC and you have to open the window for the cold wind to chill up the room. The period we go its Oct, coldest 3 deg so it is still alight without AC. Please note if you are traveling on different season, it might be an issue for your stay. The toiletries are provided except toothbrush and toothpaste, luckily we brought ours. 2 large towels, 1 toilet floor towel, toilet rolls, shampoo, conditioner, body lotion were provided. Lastly, if you are planning to have peaceful and quiet night, I would not recommend here because there's party every night till late midnight and will affect your sleep
Overall this is a nice hostel with plenty of community space, cafe, bar, etc. It's also very clean and modern, and the staff was friendly. However, the rooms are so unbelievably small, it ruins everything good they had going. Our room had 4 beds (2 bunks) but was only about 96" wide, which means there was only approx. 18" of free space to move around. In fact, the room was so tiny that only 1 person could stand up at a time, so you have to coordinate with others in the room before you can get in and out of bed, or use the restroom. I've stayed in quite a few hostels all over the world, but this was definitely the smallest room I've ever seen, and due to this, it's definitely NOT a good value!
Amazing hostel with plenty going on!
Our stay at the Generator in Berlin was amazing! The room was a very comfortable size and had everything you could need. The hostel had everything you could possibly need, we utilized the laundry on our stay after travelling for a few weeks this was much needed. The staff are great and extremely friendly, we received free breakfast upon check in from one staff member which was a nice surprise. Only downside was our shower flooded every time we used it and when we told reception on the Saturday they said they could only get someone in on Monday to fix it (which was fair enough). However, no one came on the Monday to fix the drain, we just had to deal with having shorter showers. Other than that, a great stay at a really lively hostel! :) highly recommend.
Didn’t live up to expectation
I have stayed at Generatir Barcelona and wasn’t particularly impressed with my stay. Hostel was ok, not much of a social area as the bar was only open at night. There is a courtyard but it poured with rain the whole time I was there so wasn’t really anywhere else to go or meet people! There are noise restrictions in place at night but these are not monitored or adhered to, didn’t get hardly any sleep in the 5 nights I stayed. Soap dispensers were empty and rooms didn’t smell great. First night was really muggy I later found out the other rooms had air con but ours didn’t. I asked to change rooms or upgrade as I hadn’t been able to sleep, looked online during my stay and the room I’d booked was now a load cheaper. To change rooms they said I’d have to completely pay again after already paying way over what the room was being sold for. Quite frustrating
Filthy rooms, expensive prices - this is not a designer hostel. It is simply the same as any cheap, overcrowded, undercleaned backpacker hostel but with hotel prices.
So stylish and has everything you need, really central.
Nice hotel near metro station
A cozy place and near the metro. Just few minutes walk to get to some famous spots. Friendly staffs.
Stay if your ambition is to be a Sardine.
Tiniest squeeziest hostel room I’ve EVER been in. Stayed in the Generator Hotel in Paris before for 3 nights, and it was nothing like this. There’s barely enough space to roll a medium-sized luggage through between the beds, much less open it. Checked-in and lugged my bags up to find out someone else had taken the bed I was allotted in the 8-bed dorm. Went down to the check-in counter again, they gave me a bottom bunk in an “upgraded” 4-bed room which was just as squeezy, and someone else had taken the bed I was given too. I ended up taking another bed instead - they don’t have very good regulations for that. Highlights: The nice bartenders at the hostel bar & the Seafood Pasta at Rosmarin next door. Definitely wouldn’t stay again, but might pop in for a cocktail after dinner at Rosmarin.
Its location is great. Spent three nights there in early August. There is no venting or A/C in the room or the hallway. The room temperature is much higher than outside. Very uncomfortable. Also, the breakfast buffet is a joke, which has very few options. For that price, you can easily find much better foods on the street.
I've never stayed in a hotel that was so quiet. You can't hear the neighbours and you can't hear anyone in the hallway. It wasn't nice when the elevator broke down when I wanted to check out. I had to carry my luggage down 3 flights of stairs.
This place is fine to stay if you’ll be in Berlin for a couple days. There’s no AC & we stayed during the hottest days in Berlin, but we managed. Overall the staff was friendly. We got there earlier than check in time, but there was a room to place our luggage.
Popular hostel in a nice area. Nice staff and good amenities but property was a bit beat up (non functioning things; elevator, missing door handle, broken dryer etc) Rooms are basic but functional, bathroom was nice
Good location
Modern decor but comfortable, very friendly place
just disgusting
When I arrived in my room and bed I saw a bra and short on my bed. After 5 times attending the reception, I got just the new cover for the bed. mine was used by Indian girl and reception did not care about it. cleanness was terrible and see attached photos.
It’s a great place, the staff is really kind and helpful, the rooms are clean and the beds are comfortable, it’s near some of the most touristic places and just a few steps away from the subway, which is convenient.
Considering the price, it was overall OK. many decent restaurants near the hostel and its own bar was great. But the room was too small for 8 people to fit in and In my room it smelled so badly I couldn't rest much. Maybe that was just because there was some smelly guy in my room. Friendly staff, good services. I recommend!
Nice staff, clean and tidy hostel. Wouldn’t ask for me!
Good vibe and location
Very good vibe and nice bar. The only issue was shower drain and sink were blocked but as soon as I told them they fixed it.

The room was fine for the one night we stayed in Berlin
