Great stay!

Everything worked pretty well! Nice room with AC, great roof top with food and beverage offers and a pool. Friendly and helpful staff :)

Comfortable, clean rooms. Despite rooftop bar, not a great place for solo travelers to meet people.

We loved the cheeky monkey. The staff was on top of any issue we had. Our safe wouldn’t open and our hot water wasn’t working and they sent someone up immediately to fix it up. The rooms were clean and quiet and the rooftop bar and pool was great. Highly recommend

Its alright..

Nice hotel, front desk staff were helpful for booking tours and taxi's. Room was nice, however we did get a lot of mosquito's in our room which we belive was due to the door not sealing properly (gap at top and bottom). Pool area was smaller then expexted from the photos and a lot more run down then expected, yet nice enough. Atmosphere was not as expected, thought it would be quite social, however barely saw another person in the hotel for our week stay. Downside was the noise, our room was located on the bottom floor and we would be woken every morning at around 6am, usually due to staff walking up and down the hallway on walkie talkies.. god knows what they were doing, but this was usually loud and consistent for the entire morning. Would recommend requesting a room on a higher floor to maybe stop this issue. Lastly, locations not great, while theres enough places around, if you want to be in the centre of things this is not the place to stay, is about a 25 minute walk to the busy area.

I had two different rooms and they both smelled like mildew. My luggage and everything still stinks. If I was to go back it would be because the staff was sooo nice

Good stay at Cheeky Monkey

Stay was good. Check is was a breeze. Room was as promised. Keep in mind the rooms are small. Rooftop pool and resto/bar were nice, however the food/drinks were a bit expensive.

Happy and modern

A happy hotel with limited space. Staff were very helpful, roof top pool area was very friendly with good food and beer. The room was very small but no more than could be expected for the price and after all it is just a back packers hotel. There are no cupboard spaces in the room except 2 drawers under the sink so you have to live out of your back pack. The rooms are air conditioned so it’s omfy at night and the beds are good. Hire a scooter from the hotel as there is no deposit, just leave your passport in their safe, normally I wouldn’t do this but it’s very modern and secure, also the scooters are a little cheaper there. Over all a modern friendly cheap hotel close to the beach and night life. Would stay again.

Exceptionally good value!

We stayed a Cheeky Monkey for 7 nights. The staff were friendly and helpful. The room was small but it was very clean and comfortable. We were offered clean towels, bottles of complimentary water and new toilet paper everyday. We had a fridge and TV in the room, and the air con worked well. The rooftop pool/bar was a great space to socialise/ relax. They have a free buffet 3 nights a week! The WiFi was excellent and bike rental was cheap. Location was fantastic! Plenty of bars, cafes, restaurants and markets nearby. It’s about a 5 minute walk to the beach and the seafood market, 10 minutes to the food night market and about 20 minutes to the main drinking area and main souvenir markets. Plenty of cheap jeepneys around if you don’t want to walk. I wouldn’t stay anywhere else in Koh Samui now!

Not so great

First they put us in this small moldy room with no windows. They changed us to this other room that actually had a balcony which is much better! Room was very small. Staff was friendly. Rooftop bar was ok. I would pay more and stay in a better place.

We paid a bit extra for a balcony room. This was definitely worth it! Lovely upstairs area and provided free buffet food if you buy a drink on certain nights which was an added bonus.

Misleading

I extended my stay and paid through hotels.com and specifically booked a double room, this has a balcony and I could try my things. When I went downstairs despite already booking and paying I was told this room is not available and was disappointed. The receptionist wasn’t as nice as the other ones, also when it was happy hour I got charged full price on Wednesday and I don’t think I will stay here again.

Rooms are ok, a bit small but I didn’t expect anything more for the price that I paid. Receptionists are friendly and willing to help with anything. The only big issue that I had with this hotel is that every morning room cleaning staff was extremely loud..and I really mean extremely loud.. they were talking really loud.. laughing.. using their walkie talkies just outside my room door. sometimes they started their job about 7AM and I think it should be common sense that nobody wants to wake up at that time on their holiday, I tried to tell them that I am trying to sleep so please be quiet, but nothing changed. Other then that hotel is reasonable for the price that I paid.. convenient location, clean rooms, helpful receptionists.

Had an amazing stay , the place was modern clean and tidy and staff v friendly . Only downside was beds a little hard and lumpy pillows, also no where to put clothes but didn’t ruin our stay n would definitely stay again and recommend . Local to everything on Koh Samui and as well as rooftop pool and bar the beach was 5 mins away

Best hostel i’ve been too. Cheap, clean and comfy beds (If you like a hard matress). Would definitely return next time.

Nice place and quiet. Great location and shopping close to there

Clean and tidy. Had to move rooms due to leaking window from heavy rains which I had to pay extra for. Overall hotel was OK for what I consider to be budget accommodation.

Stayed here before and had a good time again, bar staff are excellent. room is small but clean and bed is very comfortable, could do with reception staff getting training with dealing with tourists as they are not very helpful and sometime just rude.

absolutely disgusting hygiene and staff

i utterly cannot believe how rude the staff are here. one night we accidentally lost our key card and the receptionist simply told us he did not care and we waited until 5 in the morning to get into our rooms. i have had to go to hospital because the amount of bed bug bites i have resemble chicken pox. when told the reception about it they could not care less and offered no help for me. the rooftop bar served my boyfriend cheese (which he didnt order and didnt realise was in the toastie until after had eaten) so was consequently throwing up all night because it does not agree with him. it is a lovely place and the rooftop bar is very nice with cheap drinks (also staff up there are very nice) but the way the receptionists run the place is unappauling and even for thailand i am shocked at how they behaved. they have no care for you what so ever they just want your money

Good value for price, I stayed in low season so was cheaper than normal. Good location and clean rooms.

Great hostel

Great hostel for cleanliness. The room (double en suite) was ok but only about 6" space between the bottom of the bed and the wall. That, coupled with the lack of cupboard space were the only downfall. We had 2 rucksacks one of which had to go on the shower, the other on the floor in front of the door (potential fire hazard). Other than that, the rooftop pool& bar were a great place to chill with free food (when you buy a drink) at 7pm on Sunday, Tuesday and Thursday evenings. Food was good and the bar staff are very friendly. Would definitely recommend if you don't mind cramped room.

Everything was great except one small issue: a liitle bit noisy becouse of building reconstruction near buy.

Brilliant hotel in a great spot, amazing price!

This is a great hotel, really strong price for the area and in a great location. Room is tight, but what do you expect at this price! Also, the rooftop pool and bar (with free buffet at times) is amazing! Would definitely stay again, and stay longer.

Cheap hotel close to the beach

Cheeky Monkey was close to Chaweng Beach which was always very crowded and gorgeous. There were a ton of shops, restaurant and massage places near by. The hostel was what you would expect for the price. I stayed in a private room that had a balcony that overlooked a smelly, disgusting, black, trash filled, river (if you can even call it that?). The hotel pool is also very small and so is the restaurant area attached to it. There were only 6 pool chairs so they were always filled. Over all good experience but not great. Would recommend for the price

Motel style affordable hotel

it's not bad for the price you pay. the roof has a pool and a cafeteria.

The staff are very friendly and helpful. Clean hotel, rooms slightly small but not so bad plenty room for a couple and two backpacks if you keep the room tidy. We rented a scooter from the reception with no issues. The rooftop bar is a great space, good happy hour deals and 3 nights a week they put in a free buffet dinner. We ate breakfast at the rooftop every morning. Overall a good place to stay 4/5

Super Clean Rooms At Budget Price

Double room was very clean and comfortable. Venue had friendly vibes and was located very close to all the fun! Definitely recommend to people trying to stay in the main beach area at a budget, but still wanting privacy and peace after a day out. Overall good choice of stay and great value for the money. The one and only complaint was that the wifi connection was consistently pretty bad, probably because a lot of people using the wifi from the same router. My husband and I work online so that's why it was a problem for us, not being able to message people or have Skype calls the whole time.

The room was fine, window looked out on to another building. The pool is currently under construction which was disappointing.

1 night in here with a balcony room, room small and view seems like a construction site, but you got a good location and nice staff, not so bad.

Everything was great, for a couple with two backpacks each the rooms were a little small but everything else was great

Not bad location

Even the place is located in Chaweng, the location isn't great. It's 2km walking from the main bars and clubs. In other hand, it's more chill, not crazy area and there are restaurants and services around. The bar staff ais great and sweet. I had a problem with the reception because you can use the energy of your room only if you are in, so you can't leave your phone charging while you go to the beach, for example, I asked one more key card and they refused, I paid only one night, I said I could stay longer in case they give an extra key. I got it. Them worry is about leaving the air conditioning on while no one is the room. Only pathetic people do this because it is waste of energy and against the environment.

Great location

Hotel sits at the very end of the strip which makes it great to start at one end and finish at the other we loved the location. Rooms need to be better cleaned. they smelled of mold really bad asked to switch rooms and they showed us two other rooms we could switch too but they all smelled of mold. rooftop is awesome and the free buffet was a great touch. if they would address the issuues with the rooms this hostel could be a 5 star hostel

Love this place

Just needed a night and this place is perfect except you have to leave the property for a cup of coffee in the am. Love the roof top and bar and pool, rooms are small but really nice.

terrible experience

I would totally recommend anyone to stay at cheeky monkeys for the following reasons: 1) The rooms are way too small there is no space to open any suitcase. 2) Very noisy, if you want to have a chill stay you choose the wrong place, the walls are thin as paper and there is a lot of party people coming in and out. 3) Expensive for what it is, there is plenty of hotel near by much better and cheaper 4) If you want to rent a scooter don't do it at cheeky monkeys, the staff will try to rip you off on the damage you haven't done on the scooter

Second time here

This place is great. The staff are super friendly and incredible helpful. The rooms are very modern as the building as only built in 2014. Wifi is quick. Location is great, 10 minute walk and you're on the beach. Rooftop bar is awesome. It's my go to place when in Koh Samui. If you're looking to be social this place is for you

Great rooftop pool

Good hotel. Very affordable. Rooms are small but we had a patio which was nice. Close to the action in chaweng beach but off the Main Street so not too noisey. Great rooftop pool. Would stay here again

Great hotel in a great location

We would loved almost everything about this Hotel. Price was great. Location great and the roof top bar was a nice place to hangout. The free buffet on Sunday, Tuesday, and Thursday was a plus! Only down side to this hotel was the moldy smell in the rooms and the mold in the bathrooms. We had to change rooms but they all smelled the same.

Basic but clean hotel- great value for money

Had a one-night stop in Chaweng before flying to Bangkok. The value for this hotel is amazing. Rooms are very basic but clean and reasonable size. Quiet back street 5 minute drive from the beach.

They will try to rip you off

We stayed here for two nights over New Years. Check in went fine. We came back one afternoon and the bed was made. Although we hadn't put the sign up for it to be done. When we went to check out the receptionist grabbed a towel out of a cupboard. We had gone to the fullmoon party the night prior and used a towel to shower. Some of the paint was on the towel. Now this is BODY PAINT AKA WATER SOLUABLE. they tried to charge us 500 baht. My husband took the towel and washed it in the sink. Tada! No stain. This place is a joke. The staff is rude. And now apparently they demonstrated they try to steal money from customers. Excellent work!!! Looks like they are the dumb ones for trying to pull a fast one. Don't trust them. also they are extremely loud on their stupid radios at 8 in the morning. Stomping around. And the power went out multiple times to the room but yet they have power in the hallways and reception. There was also another couple who checked out early and cancelled their reservations because this place is the worst. It stinks like mildew.

AVOID BED BUGS AND FLOODED ROOM

Arrived here after a few hours our room was completely flooded all staff did was give us a few extra towels to clean it up. After night one I was covered in bites, we stayed one more night for my boyfriend to wake up at 4:30am to something bitting his back we woke up and turned the light on to our bed covered in BEDBUGS. Night staff was asleep on reception didn't wake up, when they finally did wake up they said the hotel was fully booked and couldn't do nothing about it. -Rude and unhelpful staff. - bedbugs - flooding -AVOID AT ALL COSTS

Money for value

The room was basic clean towel change everyday we did have to buy toilet roll the toilet was block the 2 nights were there so I had call some the unblocked it staff were helpful and friendly and tue thrust they do free buffer 7 pm be there for that time it gets busy

The management dont care once you have paid

Second time I stayed here, first time was in June 2016 when I left stuff in a drawer in my room and on my return 2 days later I was told the items were found but had immediately been thrown away. The manageress offered no compensation and seemed unconcerned about me going to the Police. This second and final visit I wanted to leave my luggage for 2 hours. All they could offer was it to be stacked in a public area out of sight of the receptionist. I asked for the small bag to be put somewhere safe. The same manageress said No and suggested I take it with me on my motorbike at personal risk to myself. Shocking service, rooms are claustrophobic and there is a very smelly river on one side of the building. Avoid

great location

A little noisy, great location across the street from the beach, and walking distance to nightlife. Front desk staff was horrible but the staff running the pool bar were amazing and very helpful.

For the price you couldn't ask for more! Couldn't pick any faults. As long as you don't mind your room being rather small.

Nice budget hotel

I enjoyed staying here. Nice budget accommodation. The hotel has a nice roof top pool and restaurant, which wasn't very expensive. The room was tiny, but it was cheap. I'd stay here again.

great hostel and amazing price

For the price you'll do well to beat a place like this. Very clean and modern. Nice rooms. Staff are all lovely and very friendly. Bar and pool on the roof are a bonus. The area is very nice in general. If I had to be very picky my only complaint would be that the beds are a bit hard.

Modern hostel close to the beach

Cheeky Monkey's is a modern hostel located within a 5-10 minute walk to the beach. Our room was small, with our suitcases there wasn't much room to move around, but it was modern, clean and comfortable. Three nights a week they offer a free buffet on the rooftop which was a nice touch (although it wasn't amazing). The rooftop/pool area is small but has a good atmosphere especially during happy hour (2 for 1 cocktails plus cheap beers etc). We ate dinner up there one night and the price was good for Samui and the quality of food. There are plenty of restaurants, markets and mini marts located within close proximity. Overall, we had a pleasant stay and would definitely stay again!

You get what you pay

The hotel has a really nice location, not exactly in the good part of Chaweng but close enough to everything. The room is very small, but for the price, is awesome!! The bathroom and sink had a little disgusting mold, but is easy to deal with that. The staff was friendly and helped me with tour and transfer. I super reccomend it!!

DO NOT STAY HERE! MONEY AND CREDIT CARD STOLEN

Do not stay at this hotel. We checked out and when we were on the boat to the mainland we noticed 5000 baht was missing. We called the hotel when we got to our next destination and they denied anything about money being taken. We know the money was taken that day when the room was cleaned as the money was hidden in our luggage and we had accounted for all of it just before we left for the beach. A day after checking out we had noticed that a credit card had been stolen from another part of our luggage and 29000 baht (£600) had been spent on it as they do not need a pin number in thailand. We called the bank to cancel and they informed us that someone had tried to use it again whilst we was on the phone to them. That card never left the room and has never left my bag as it was a back up card for emergencies. To top it off they also stole £20 of english money. Stay well away from this hostel

Don't stay here.

Staff are rude and unhelpful. They sell you tours where they lie about what the tour offers and where the tour companies are not safe. All they want is your money.

Simple private room in a hostel. Only about two feet of floor around the bed but that was fine as it was just somewhere to sleep. 5-10 walk to heart of chaweng beach and nightclubs etc.

Hotel is good for price

This is a budget hotel with character. The roof-top pool area is fairly nice and small. The pool is very small. On certain days, they serve a free buffet dinner wtih the cost of a drink. The staff are really nice and one guy gave me a ride into central Chewang for free when he got off work. The rooms are small and basic. Not too pleasant but what one expects for the low price. The hotel is convenient to the beach and places to eat.

Good Value for Money

The location is excellent, south of Chaweng Beach, around 15 mins walk from Central Samui, the only mall on the island. The staff is polite. The rooftop pool is a bit tiny, but with free buffet food on a few weekdays of the week, what more can I ask for! The price I paid is good value for $$$, since price level on Samui is generally more expensive than Phuket, esp. taxi or songthaew. Room is clean, air-con and TV works. Towels changed everyday. The only downside is the window lock doesnt work. But luckily nothing happened. This hostel is on the same street as the cooking school, SITCA, so for those of u into Thai cooking, make sure u book a class in advance. Final tips: Dont lose ur keycard, as there is a 300B deposit on it. Also, dont forget to book ur connecting transport if flying from Surat Thani.

Amazing stay - perfect for everyone

I wish I could take Cheeky Monkeys with me on my travels! The place was really easy to find and in a great location. Our room was lovely, a little cosy but it was very cost effective! It was just the right size for myself and my partner. The shower was powerful and warm (or cold if you wanted!) and the air con was awesome! We stayed for a total of 3 nights and over that time ate on the roof for breakfast, lunch & dinner. The food every time was spot on, the chefs massamam curry was delicious. We also had the free buffet on one night which (firstly it's free!) was delicious and plentiful, they kept topping it up and bringing round spring rolls. All of the staff on the roof were super friendly. Finally from the hotel reception we hired scooters (they won't try and scam you for scratches! Very fair and helpful) and also booked us a very early airport transfer. The facilities were spot on and the pool was a lovely bonus. I would have no hesitation in recommending Cheeky Monkeys for people looking for either a hostel or hotel.

Nice room, but the food is not great

The hotel room was clean, comfortable and cozy, the swimming pool was clean. We didn't like the food in the restaurant though.

Perfect little hotel for budget travellers.

Nice modern, clean rooms. They are small but that was no problem to us. The rooftop pool is small but is actually quite nice up there (there is a restaurant/bar area up there as well). My boyfriend and I really enjoyed this place and the only really why we left was because it was a decently long walk to the main areas where all the bars are.

Room smelt of moisture and everything was a little damp.

We loved this hotel for its location, lots of restaurants and shops and nightclubs. The room was basic which was fine with a patio. However the side of the hotel that we were on there was a super smelly swamp so we never sat on it.

Cozy and comfy!

It was my first time in Samui! So impressed with hotel staffs, facilities and cleanliness. Of course, room is quite small but cozy! Anyway I sill had not really good experience during I stayed. Middle of the night, other guests were so loud and rude. They probably got drunk! Overall satisfaction was okay.

Scooters

This place is awesome for the price. Walking distance to chaweng beach. If you plan to rent a scooter this is a great option to avoid some of the typical scooter scams. Good coffee but food on the roof was kinda meh. Really nice helpful staff, clean rooms, cold AC. A perk of having a small room is it cools down quick. Will be back.

Pretty nice hotel, not great for solo travellers

The room was amazing, the staff was very helpful and quite kind. The only issue I had with the room was that I couldn't see the outside. My room window was literally facing a concrete wall.

Good budget room

Stayed 3 nights to attend full moon party. Hotel is clean, comfortable and cheap. If you want a cheap, cheerful place to stay I couldn't recommend it enough. Not on par with the beachfront hotels but has all you need for a comfortable stay. Comfy beds, rooms on the small side (how long do you stay in your room for?) air con, rooftop bar/restaurant/pool area, good food and drinks, reasonable prices, great staff. Tip for anyone going to full moon party... Book vip as this saves queuing for the return ferry at the end of the night, the hotel reception can book this and anything else you require

Newly renovated hostel with rooftop pool/bar!

Great newly refurbished hostel! Star attraction is their rooftop pool/bar. Make sure you get there early to get a sunbed! Great place for relaxing without breaking the bank! Also features a nice free buffet three nights a week! Only negative was the price of food/drink in the rooftop restaurant.

good place for budget!

We booked a room with balcony. The staff on arrival was not very helpful, probably because she didn't speak good english. The other staff who worked later at night was was very nice and helpful. The room isn't big but very clean and convenient. I gave 4 out of 5 for cleanness because there are ants in the room. I was told to wash my own towel on my second day because it had some stain on it. I hand washed it, removed the stain and handed it back to them. Two bottles of water were put in the fridge every day for the two of us. I like to keep my drinks nice and cold so I turned the fridge power higher and the cleaner kept putting it back down to lowest which was annoying.

Awesome hostal

really enjoyed staying at cheeky monkey the room size was ok , I was on my own so The room was perfect for me. The bar and swimming pool on the roof was awesome great staff very friendly and a free buffet every Tuesday,Thursday and Sunday. Not far from the beech and restaurants and about a 20minate walk to the main nightlife. Definitely stay here again

Enjoyed the stay

We enjoyed during our stay. Room was little small but very clean and staff was very helpfull.

Great location. Near enough to the action but quiet at night. Very clean with fresh water and towels each day. Excellent wifi. Downsides of small room and what appears to be a drainage canal at the back which my balcony overlooked. Would stay here again if visiting Kho Samui.

Worth the $

Hostel is in a quiet location close to the beach. They have happy hour from 3 to 6pm and a free buffet at 7pm 3 days a week. The front desk Staff were nice minus the few grumps. The bar staff are amazing and super friendly and make you feel welcome.

Fantastic!

Fantastic. This is the best place I've stayed while backpacking. I was so surprised at what we got for the money we paid. They have a fantastic pool bar. The pool is small but it's perfect for cooling off with a drink. Our room was small but really nice, comfortable and clean. We spent most of our time at the roof top bar anyway. The staff were so friendly. They do a free buffet now and again for guests and drink promotions too. This is a great place to meet people. It's only a couple of minutes walk to the beach. Right next to lots of restaurants and some souvenir stalls. I had such a nice time here. Stay here!

Cheeky Monkey's is a great budget option. There are a lot of restaurants nearby which are mostly geared towards tourists since it's a very touristy area. However, there is a Night Market nearby(5 min walk) that has great cheap, local food. There are also lots of bars and clubs nearby as well. The Thai boxing stadium is a 10 min walk away. Public access to the beach is a 5 min walk away. I agree with most reviewers that the rooms are small, but it doesn't really matter. The rooms were clean the staff cleaned them everyday.

Good hotel with reasonable price

I've spent my 4 days 3 nights here, the price is reasonable. the staffs are very friendly and helpful, room is small but more than enough for backpacker. if you are going to enjoy the facilities or relax in this hotel, then it might not suit for you. Hotel condition and cleanliness is much better than my expectation

Fantastic hotel

Fantastic location only a five minute walk from Chaweng beach, a little bit longer to the strip and Ark bar, for example, but not too far. Great restaurants nearby. The hotel offered a free buffet three nights of the week which we didn't know about but took full advantage of, the food was amazing! The rooftop bar is brilliant and the two for one cocktails are gorgeous. Airport transfer was sorted quickly and efficiently for us. Fantastic little hotel, would definitely stay here again.

nice hotel, staff were amazing upsatirs by the pool/bar, for the price this is fantastic, we stopped in some expensive places on our trip and this beat some of them. our only negative is that the reception staff are not very lively they could do with looking how the bar staff do it and get some tips, also we booked a taxi from reception to take us for our boat to the main land and despite being shown the correct pier and reception also writing the correct one on our recipe the driver dropped us at a totally different one and drove off, it cost us 1000bht to then get to the correct one and we only just made it in time for the boat, so if u need a taxi not local go up the road to a travel shop (they are also cheaper)

Cheeky but Clean

What's not to like clean, well managed, roof top patio and bar, good food, free buffet and music 3X a week...all for between 16-25 dollars a night...only down side was a smelly stream beside the building on one side...great time...met a great variety of people...did i mention clean...

Pretty good

Nice room, pretty good location, about a 5-10 min stroll to chewang beach and plentty of restaurants around, Only complaint was the group in the neighbouring room talking aloud till the wee hours as the walls do not give much in the way of sound proofing. Pool looked good although we did not use. Food from rooftop was good too. would stay there again.

Nice Hotel but bad soundproof

nice hotel but extremely small room and guests in out hotel room noisy with loud door banging disturbing sleeping during the night.

Great place for a great price

You usually pay for what you get, here you get a lot lot more! Really good hotel. Very friendly staff, especially Dougie.. Lovely little rooftop terrace with a nice little pool, do a free buffet for guests 3 nights a week. The rooms are small but comfortable, cleanest we stayed at in Thailand, good air con and good wi fi, only downside was that there's no where to put your clothes, or much else for that matter, although I wouldn't let that put you off.

A Cheeky Good Place!!! AAA+++

This place was perfect! It has a fridge in the room (with a freezer and ice tray in order to make ice - a big score!), AC, flat screen TV with cable, free wifi that works great; as I am writing this review from the hotel. The room is cleaned daily and comes with toiletries, and free bottles of water. There is a rooftop pool and restaurant/bar with a nice view. The food is good, overpriced for what it is, but competitive to other hotels and sit down restaurants in the area. The beach is just across the street, and there are many things to do within walking distance.
